Default About Molly's Cannons - History of Molly Pitcher

EVERYONE IS WELCOME
(not spammers)

UPDATE: Registration is closed due to spammers. You can always post as a guest and then make arrangements for you to join.

I have conservative and liberal friends so you will not be censored unless you are threatening physical harm, posting porn images or spam. My goal is to limit permanent bans on spammers only.

This site was named in honor of Molly Pitcher, an amazingly strongminded woman during the Revolutionary War. Instead of impatiently darning socks as she waited for news, she delivered water to our military on sweltering battlegrounds.

Upon finding her husband had fallen in the Battle of Monmouth, she took his place at the cannon and fired away until the battle was won. Legend has it that the lower part of her skirt was caught and ripped away by a musketball, but she kept firing.

The Battle of Monmouth was a dramatic victory as it demonstrated that our Continental Army could withstand British troops and that a people, jaws set toward freedom, would not be trampled.

Be informed about the issues. You won't find the truth watching "American idol," or by listening to only one news outlet. Then get involved in the voting booth, at Tea Partys and at our Townhalls.

Currently we are inviting our favorite columnists to submit to Molly's Cannons. I invite people from ALL sides to participate on so many issues in our forum. Do not enter if you can't stand being challenged on your point of view, are easily offended or possess virgin ears.

We fought for freedom, our forum is not about censorship. However porn images, death threats and spam will be removed.

If you have any concerns or questions you can contact me at

Thank you for coming!

This made me curious so I looked it up. I found something that I thought sure was a made up fantasy of some soldier or something, it made it sound like she was out there half dressed because a musketball ripped off her skirt but she didn't get hurt

SuuuUUUUUuuuuuure!

But this explains it a little better, noted as an "original document" from what looks like a historical site:

Quote:
"Molly Pitcher" Mans a Cannon at Monmouth

One little incident happened during the heat of the cannonade, which I was eyewitness to, and which I think would be unpardonable not to mention. A woman whose husband belonged to the Artillery, and who was then attached to a [cannon] in the engagement, attended with her husband at the [cannon] the whole time. While in the act of reaching a cartridge and having one of her feet as far before the other as she could step, a cannon shot from the enemy passed directly between her legs without doing any other damage than carrying away all the lower part of her petticoat. Looking at it with apparent unconcern, she observed that it was lucky it did not pass a little higher, for in that case it might have carried away something else, and continued her occupation.

Belly up to the bar, folks. Life's too short to spend all our time arguing politics.

What's yer pleasure? I'm buying this round!
